This month, South Inc in Nashville, TN had the opportunity to sit down with one of our dedicated team members, Austin Knippenberg. Knippenberg is a Territory Manager for the office and has been with us since March. Born in Lexington, Kentucky, and raised in Morehead, Kentucky, the businessman has always had a drive for success. We sat down with Austin this month to talk about his journey to South Inc, motivation, and goals with the company!
How would your parents have described you as a kid?
“I outgoing and studious. I was friends with every clique in school, and I was valedictorian.”
Were you in any sports or extracurriculars?
“I played baseball and played in jazz band, marching band, orchestra, percussion ensemble. I was also involved in FBLA.”
How did that competitive environment help develop you?
“It taught me how to set goals, persevere through challenges, and gave me the drive to be my best at whatever I did.”
Tell us about your college experience.
“I attended Morehead State University after high school. I earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology, and a minor in music performance. I served as VP of Environmental Eagles and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and Phi Mu Alpha.”
Where did you work before joining our team?
“I worked as a lab technician for an organic mushroom farm in Kentucky, and as a freight broker for Total Quality Logistics prior to finding this job.”
What is one life experience that you feel has shaped you?
“My foreign exchange experience in Brazil. The audition to achieve the scholarship was in itself a feat. Once there, being completely independent and exposed to a beautiful culture definitely prepared for life after college.”
What is something we might not know about you by just looking at you?
“I speak Brazilian Portuguese.”
What were your first thoughts when starting with the company?
“I noticed that this job is unlike any other I’d interviewed for. It fosters an environment and upward mobility potential. I love that this job requires you to be a model employee for success and gives me the chance to influence others in bettering themselves as well.”
How would you describe the culture at your company?
“Driven, energetic, and optimistic.”
What has been your best memory with the company?
“Going to the Regional Leaders Conference in Atlanta, and seeing how many people my manager has directly and inadvertently positively influenced via establishing South Inc.”
How has this career changed you as a person?
“It has given me an avenue to achieve my goals, which has ignited my focus on the future and given me a sense of pride.”
What are your goals with the company?
“My goals are to develop strong professional and personal relationships with like-minded people.”
As for his tremendous growth and success, Austin gives some credit to the leaders that have inspired him. “Hannah is certainly a mentor. I feel blessed to get to learn from the best” says Knippenberg. “Outside of work, my uncle has always been an inspiration and mentor to me. Growing up in a rural Kentucky family, he was a model artist, athlete, intellectual, and an empath.” When he’s not achieving goals and motivating others in the South Inc office, the Territory Manager can be found drumming in an alternative rock band, rock climbing, or studying German. Keep rockin’ on, Austin. We’re you’re biggest fans! 🎸
